Fellow Social Life

Are you considering the Upstate Nephrology Fellowship and wondering how you can maintain a vibrant social life while navigating the demands of the training program? Rest assured, the Upstate Nephrology Fellowship not only provides exceptional training but also fosters a supportive community that recognizes the importance of work-life balance. Learn more about our Nephrology Fellow Social Life below.

Here's what sets the Upstate Nephrology Fellowship apart and ensures an enriching social experience alongside your professional development:

  1. From the very beginning, the Department of Medicine extends a warm welcome to all incoming residents and fellows with a summer picnic. The Department of Medicine hosts this social event in July, inviting new residents, fellows, and their families to connect at a local venue. This creates a wonderful opportunity for incoming families to foster meaningful connections. Throughout the year, the faculty treats fellows with almost monthly visits to restaurants along Marshall Street on the University Hill, allowing for relaxed group experiences. In addition, fellows are pleasantly surprised with lunches individually by faculty, offering a well-deserved respite amidst their demanding schedules. Program Director, Dr. Mobeen, invites fellows and their families to his home for dinner twice a year, providing an intimate setting to establish personal connections and forge lasting memories. As the academic year draws to a close, a formal graduation awards ceremony takes place. This event, attended by fellows, their families, faculty, and staff, serves as a farewell to graduating fellows while recognizing outstanding trainees and faculty members with various teaching awards. This usually happens at one of the well-known local restaurants. Join the Upstate Nephrology Fellowship and embrace a fellowship experience that fosters camaraderie, celebrates achievements, and creates lasting connections through engaging social events.
  2. Mentorship: Throughout your fellowship, you'll have the opportunity to learn from distinguished faculty members who are dedicated to your success. These mentors provide guidance, career advice, and personal support, ensuring that you have the resources and encouragement to excel in your professional journey. Building relationships with these experts not only enhances your knowledge but also paves the way for future collaborations and career opportunities.
  3. Celebrating Milestones Together: The Upstate Nephrology Fellowship acknowledges and celebrates your achievements. Graduation ceremonies, research presentations, and other significant milestones are recognized and commemorated. These special occasions offer opportunities to connect with colleagues, friends, and loved ones, creating cherished memories and reinforcing the sense of accomplishment that comes with each milestone.
  4. Encouraging Work-Life Balance: The program values your well-being and understands the importance of work-life integration. While the fellowship demands dedicated effort, you'll be encouraged to prioritize self-care and personal interests. Upstate supports wellness initiatives, including access to recreational facilities like CAB, ensuring that you have outlets to recharge, relax, and maintain a healthy work-life balance.
