Quality Conferences
SUNY: Upstate Medical University is committed to providing quality healthcare services for its patients. In order to maintain our high standards of care, we implement strict quality control programs and procedures to ensure our patients receive the highest-quality services when they are in our care.
Our teams come together on a regular basis to review safety protocols for all faculty, students, and patients within the University Hospital. Below are just two of the conferences we hold each year to ensure we maintain quality healthcare.
Morbidity and Mortality Conference
The Morbidity and Mortality Conference is a biweekly conference meeting at the Department of Medicine’s Power Rounds. Each conference is presented by a team of two PGY-2 residents.
This conference runs on a systems-based conference model with a focus on dual goals of clinical education as well as addressing patient safety concerns and reducing preventable errors.
Resident Quality Control
This monthly, informal meeting consists of residents, faculty, and other services including nursing and the pharmacy. At each meeting, team members will review interesting cases from a quality perspective, raising important quality and system issues that may need to be addressed.
During the Resident Quality Control meetings, team members will have the opportunity to present results or progress of ongoing and completed quality projects. In addition, residents will have the opportunity to partner with students and other disciplines for Quality Improvement projects and scholarships.
