How to Apply

Thank you for your interest in the Cardiovascular Disease Fellowship Training Program of SUNY Upstate Medical University. We are very excited about the future of our Cardiology Division and wish to share with you some of the opportunities that are available for you to explore. Learn more about how to apply to the Cardiology fellowship below.

Applications are accepted via ERAS (Electronic Residency Application Service) only. We do not accept paper applications. For more information on how to apply via ERAS, please visit the ERAS for Residency Applicants.

We only offer clinical track, with each fellow having the opportunity to participate in research for three - to twelve months as of their choosing. Our fellowship does not offer extended fellowships, and you, the fellow, are always the primary fellow.

The goal of the clinical track is to develop highly trained clinician educators and physician-scientists. The track now consists of three years of training, which include the standard two-year core curriculum; thee third year of fellowship is yours to develop. Therefore, giving you the option of three to twelve months of research, being assigned to the catheterization lab or EP lab for extra rotations if this is your career path. This is the year that many of our fellows will take time for research. If they are interested in interventional cardiology, we also offer the opportunity to visit a private hospital nearby.

We do not offer a research track but do allow up to 12 months of research during your three years of fellowship. Research rotations are encouraged to develop highly skilled and committed physician-scientists who will go on to develop independent lines of investigation and funding of their own. We seek applicants with outstanding clinical credentials who have demonstrated a track record of passion, skill, and productivity in research.

NOTE: Only U.S. Citizens/permanent residents and J-1 visas sponsored by the ECFMG are considered for clinical training. We do not accept HI-B visas or applicants with "pending permanent residency" status. If a J-1 visa holder, the applicant must have adequate time to complete the fellowship prior to losing J-1 status (3-year total).

Interviews

The Fellowship Selection Sub-Committees will review your application after receipt of a completed application form.

Interviews: Due to the current health emergency, 100% of our interviews will be held virtually via Zoom. Interview dates and times will be sent once your application is selected by the interview committee. The interview link will be sent well in advance. We recommend that you prepare to block 4 hours of the date you selected to allow time to meet with our Program Assistant Director, the Program Director, and current senior fellows and to allow for sufficient one-on-one time with the interviewing faculty. Our current fellows will be hosting "Happy Hours". These Zoom sessions will be held in the evening and will be held to answer any questions applicants may have post-interview.
