Physicians trained in a combination of internal medicine and pediatrics care for both adults and children. We call these doctors Med-Peds.
Find a pediatric provider now.
The Med-Ped residency program at the Department of Medicine at SUNY: Upstate Medical University takes four years to complete, consisting of two years in each specialty: pediatrics and internal medicine. Residents are then eligible to take both the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) and American Board of Pediatrics (ABP) certification exams.
Due to the versatility of Med-Ped physician training, these doctors can end up having many different career paths. Some Med-Peds go into primary care or hospital medicine. Others undergo additional training in specialties like cardiology or nephrology to treat adults, children, or both.
